Federation of European Nutrition Societies (FENS)
After organizing two very successful European Nutrition Conferences which attracted much attention, the need for unification of european nutrition societies has risen. At that point, the plan to create a Federation of European Nutrition Societies (FENS) as a firm basis for the European nutritional science community and the European Nutrition Conferences was made.
According to that plan, FENS was founded during the third European Nutrition Conference in Uppsala, Sweden in 1979, and till today represents the platform where the national Nutrition Societies from all over Europe could connect, share and exchange information, knowledge and ideas and promote the importance of nutrition for public health in Europe.
Today, FENS is a non-profit Federation consisting of 26 European Nutrition societies, each representing one country, with the idea of maintaining a permanent link for exchanges between European nutritionists with basic and applied perspectives. The aim is to combine efforts for the development of research and education in Nutrition Sciences and to promote the importance of adequate Nutrition. The main FENS event remained the European Nutrition Conference, arranged every 4 years. The Croatian Association of Nutritionists (CroAN) in 2018 became a full member of FENS and an official Croatian representative.
