The city of Zagreb
The city of Zagreb is the capital of Croatia located on the geographical, cultural, historical, and political intersection of the east and west Europe, and it connects the continental and the Mediterranean spirit in a distinctive unit. In the last few years Zagreb has been one of the 10 best European destinations, and in 2017 it was named as No. 1 Top Destination. Zagreb is becoming the required location and logical choice for the 8th International Congress of Nutritionists.
On the north side of the city lays the park of the Medvednica forest, and the city itself is a green oasis because its streets and squares are intermittent with parks and gardens. In Zagreb live a quarter of the total population of Croatia, which is almost one million citizens. For centuries, citizens have come from different parts of Europe, which have contributed to the city’s culture. Therefore, when walking around the city you can experience its rich and diverse cultural-artistic life, and you can see breath-taking monuments and versatile architecture dating from Baroque to the present day.
Certainly, it is important to emphasize that gastronomic offer is a rich combination of different cuisines. Today, there is still a culture of shopping on markets so domestic and restaurant kitchens are dominated by fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, and dairy products.
Since Zagreb is the centre of all changes in Croatia, as well as in strengthening citizen awareness of proper nutrition, prevention of various illnesses, and safety and quality of food, it perfectly fits into the concept and goal of the 8th International Congress of Nutritionists.
